Caught Portugal. The Man live last week and they put on quite the show.Trippy light displays donned the stage that reminded me of the forest in the crazy stop motion music video for "All Your Light" below.
They played most of the songs from their most recent album In the Mountain, In the Cloud which you can stream below. Personal faves include "So American" and "Floating"
Phantogram is back at it again with this electro-pop gem "Don't Move". It's got a nice rhythm and some interesting lyrics backed by a looped clap sample that will have you hitting replay immediately. They've got a new album, Nightlife, coming out in November that you can stream now from their Facebook page.
Don't forget to revisit the song that first turned me on to Phantogram "Mouthful of Diamonds"
Davila 666 released their second album back in March and I'm hitting myself for not getting in to them sooner. This Puerto Rican band has really got something going here. The video for "Tu"( below) is what grabbed my attention. The song is exactly what I'd like to listen to at a house party on a chilly fall night; it's got that nostalgic lo-fi humdrum that's just the right amount of sad and sweet. The video is its own separate project full of hazy black and white footage of young things doing what young things do when they go out to a field and let loose, but it's the ending that I like best of all.

The Givers debut album In Light came out in June and they have been all over the place ever since. Their MySpace pagedescribes them as”Afro-beat / Folk Rock / Italian Pop” and I’d say that’s about right. There is definitely a Vampire Weekend vibe there and I like it. They’ve got some feel good tunes across the whole album. The cooler it gets outside, the more tempted I am to play this song around a bonfire while I drink spiked ciders.
Here is their most recent video, for the song "Meantime".
A video to blow your mind and a song that will get you pumped for the weekend.
You can check out an interview on the Urban Outfitters blog with ol' Spank Rock himself and the Director for this video.
Favorite quote: "I want to feel that magic that I felt when I saw Purple Rain for the first time." Don't we all?
I don't know what it is about Spank Rock, but dude makes me want to rave.
It's October, all the new scary movies are coming out, Friday the 13th is playing repetitively on TV and now we've got a whole genre horror and this time it's coming out of the speakers
Kavinsky's "Nightcall" starts out with a Thrilleresque howl that leads into almost zombielike vocals.Their bandcamp site gives us a nice description of the song; doesn't it just reek of DAFT PUNK ?
"The new single ‘Nightcall’ from Kavinsky is composed of 4 tracks that represent the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.
The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn and finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ front kitten Lovefoxxx."
Saskatchewan first caught my ear with their perfect summer song "Dreamboat" but their newest single, "Skinny Dipping" is far from a sweet summer tune. It starts out creepy and continues to give me the chills, yet I can't stop listening to it. It's got an almost sensual guitar riff behind uber haunting vocals that make for a great song. Whose ready to take of their clothes and get in the water??
A blog is a terrible thing to waste....
And while other priorities took the best of my time and kept me from this little space I like to share with other music lovers out there, I've found myself wanting to come back to it time after time. If there is one thing that has remained consistent in my life its music, and my love for it. So I will try my best to continue posting to MDS all those wonderful eargasms that have delighted me day after day. And what better ear candy to share with you after this long hiatus then one of the most intriguing groups I have seen in awhile...
REPTAR has been blowing up my speakers for quite some time now, ever since I saw the video for these guys singing "Blast Off" I was hooked:
Really the whole album Oblangle Fizz, Y’all! (yes that is the name of their album!) is pretty amazing, I'd have to say that "Stuck In My ID" is a personal fave
